Car alarms are so pointless inside the city. Instead of taking a nap right now, I'm listening the incessant wailing of a car alarm. So now I'm going to expound on why I think car alarms suck. As one who hears a car alarm, my first response is not to run outside to see what is happening but to groan and wish it would stop. The car alarm has failed to draw the attention of those around in case something is awry.

Perhaps things would be different for me if I owned a car with a car alarm. Upon hearing the alarm, I'd be more likely to check to see if anything is happening to my car. In the city, it's highly likely that I would have parked my car outside earshot of the alarm. The car alarm would fail to draw my attention because I wouldn't hear it. Even if I did hear a car alarm that sounded like mine, I'm not sure I'd do anything about it; car alarms are far from unique sounds. Perhaps, in the suburbs, cars are more spread out and so the ring of an alarm would be more meaningful. But the alarm going off right now is in the parking lot across the street. There are at least 40 cars out there now.

And above all, car alarms are pointless because they create unnecessary noise pollution with minimal positive effect and I really need sleep.
