I've been learning a lot about humility lately. And the most poignant lesson I've learned that humility is impossible to feign. I've been observing the actions and behaviour of people around me and determining how that effects my perception of their humility. I have one co-worker for whom my respect is endless. As one of the technical specialists in the lab, she has supervisory responsibilities and some managerial powers. Calling on behalf of our pathologist to one of the anaesthesiologists to discuss the handling of certain legal issues, she was told that the patient was in need of blood (seeing that the call originated from the blood bank). Instead of passing the task off to one of the lab aides (who usually do the issuing to surgery), she performed the mundane task of issuing blood--probably something she hadn't done in quite a while--without letting on that she was actually a technical specialist. The people around the area continued to carry out their work, but I sat astounded and impressed.

What kind of impression have I left for others around me?
