Sometimes I'm just too pessimistic. Yesterday, I wanted to do laundry. I really needed to do laundry. I emptied my clothes out onto the floor and sorted them into the usual piles: sort-of whites, clothes that have some white, non-whites. But when I made it to the laundry room with the first load, I discovered that someone was already using the washer. I set my microwave timer for what I guessed to be the remaining time (about 5 minutes, since it was on final spin) and waited back in my apartment with my clothes and detergent in the laundry room. When the time had elapsed, the person had just started another load. Since the dryer takes 60 minutes and the washer 25 minutes, I was thinking I could slip a load in somewhere in-between. But no. When the washer was done she (judging by the clothes) placed the wet load in a basket and started another. I checked back in another 25 minutes and the yet another load was started. I was outraged. I thought it was pretty obvious that someone else wanted to get some laundry done and couldn't because he was too nice to handle other people's clothes. No, she blatantly ignored my signals and just kept on going. She kept both the washer and dryer occupied so that I'd never have a chance to squeeze a load in. I was pissed the whole night. Having taken my sheets and pillowcase from my bed, I slept fitfully on the mattress without a pillow. I was still pissed in the morning. And then it hit me: What if she was just being nice by rushing all her laundry at once? She probably realized that it wouldn't make sense to do all the washing and bunch all the drying up but she did it anyway. Yet I went and assumed the most evil scenario. It's pretty pathetic how I can get so worked up about something like this, and how this pessimistic slant can completely overwhelm me and stress me out. I've got three new zits to prove it.
