You think you know someone... and s/he totally blows you away. It's odd how that happens, sometimes. You get to know someone as a friend: someone you consider to be even a relatively good friend, someone you feel comfortable saying anything to, someone you feel understands and relates, someone you respect and thoroughly appreciate. There are some things that just never come up. That's normal--there's no way you could cover every single subject possible. (And anyway, if you could discuss every single topic possible, there would be nothing left to talk about: all that would remain is a silence--at best comfortable, but with no substance.) But then a subject you don't expect comes up one day in a roundabout way. And then it's out there, unequivocal and undeniable. You deal with it; you look past it. And you see that the person hasn't changed, notwithstanding--and that, in fact, nothing has changed. Your impressions have endured as you see no reason for re-evaluation. That's how it should be. I'm glad that's how it is.
