I've been told by many people that I'll do well in whatever task I take. Today I really put that to the test. I enjoy baking for many reasons. First of all, the end result is (usually) something that tastes good. That in itself is worth the effort. But also, baking brings back great memories of my mom and lazy Saturday afternoons spent making her delicious rhubarb apple pies. Those pies were best--and so were those afternoons.

So putting together the combination of a carton of eggs soon to expire, a lonely half-eaten bag of chocolate chips, an exam next week (i.e. reason to procrastinate), and a need for cheap fun (somehow I inherited several bags of flour and sugar each), I decided to bake today. I made up my own recipe: double chocolate pound cake. I had a rough idea of what goes into pound cake; searching online verified this. I couldn't find a recipe that I could use without going to the grocery store so I just made my own. I put in some flour, some sugar, some cocoa powder, some milk, some butter, what I had left of the eggs, what I had left of the chocolate chips. It looked kind of funny, but I stuck it in the oven anyway. I hope it turns out ok--it certainly smells good. But then again, if it doesn't turn out, I'll still have successfully procrastinated so I guess it's not a complete waste.
