I just need to buy a ticket, get on a plane and fly somewhere. All I could think of at work yesterday was, "The air coming from the analyzer smells like an airplane cabin." Most people don't like the fragrance of slightly overpowering toilet freshener mixed in with the malodour of low-grade airplane "food" as it permeates the excessively dry air, but I wafted in as much of the analyzer's scent as I could just because it, in my mind, it was that scent. I didn't revel in the smell because it was preferable to plenty other things at work that smell much worse (I don't think examples are necessary): for some reason, it was oddly comforting that my lab smelt like that. Work can become such a drag if you let it and I think that's what has happened to me. I feel I just need to get up and go somewhere. And with subconscious inclinations to get away strong already, it wasn't surprising that a smell as removed as a hematology instrument could morph into the perfume of my favourite part of travelling--the airplane ride. All this makes me even antsier as I anticipate my trip to Toronto in a couple of weeks. Seat 15D, here I come!
