I had my performance evaluation at work last week. It was quite memorable--but not because of the comments I received during the view. Before I went in to my supervisor's office, I had a conversation with a couple of co-workers. Co-worker A, a woman, said she didn't like talking to the supervisor. Every time she does, the supervisor "keeps staring at my rack." I pondered this briefly. I said, "You mean, she's a lesbian?" The other co-worker, a man, chimed in: "Yup, as in 'taste the rainbow.'" Naturally, this led to a discussion on the implications of eating Skittles and homosexuality; we reached the conclusion in consensus that there is in fact no correlation between the two. But that conversation was enough to seal the thought of my supervisor's sexual orientation in my head through the review. I don't think I look at her in any different way than I have in the past: She's still a prudent supervisor and treats her staff well. But all I could do was picture her staring at Co-worker A's large upper torso--fixated upon it as would the stereotypical guy at a nice set of... you-know-whats. I was glad my review ended when it did. Not that I had much to be worried about, but it was kind of nice to have some humorous thought in my head instead of being nervous, as I was before the revealing conversation.
