Where do you draw the line?? Today when I was at work, I was shocked by what song came on the radio. I thought the melody was familiar, but something was off. And so I listened a little longer... and finally figured out what song it was. It was "Bring me to Life," but not performed by Evanescence. No, that would be much too hard for the easy listening station, the excruciating Light 97.3, our overhead radio is permanently set to. It was some toned down, wispy rendition, completely with the requisite breathy, whiny voice to please die-hard fans of easy listening. Even as I listen to the real version now, I shudder at the thought of that horrible cover. They turned a good song with driving percussion and guitars, a throbbing bass line and a rap-rock bridge into some overly limp pining plea for someone to bring her to life. Please--if the singer expects to make a career out of such crap, somebody will need to resuscitate her and her career. Soon. But in the end, I don't know what's worse: the fact that they butchered the song like that or the fact that I sat by the speaker to finish listening to the whole song. God help me.
