I hate being short. I know it's all relative: a 6-ft person is short on a court full of NBA players but a giant when surrounded by Pygmies. But still, being short--even if only relatively--doesn't make it any better; it still sucks. Yesterday I went to Kohl's department store to pick up some clothes as it was their one-day-only 50% off sale. With the weather starting to get colder, I thought I'd pick up some clothes for the season: a pair of loungepants for at home, a few long-sleeved tees and a fleece or a sweatshirt (anything warm) to replace my departed fleece. (And some boxers too, but I need those year-round.) I was thoroughly disappointed: the smallest size they had for everything I wanted to get was a medium or a large. In most cases, they were mediums and larges that obviously did not fit me. And even when mediums did exist, they had many more XXL items than they did medium ones. Frustrated, I started to search through the racks of clothes just to see if I could find a single small--of any item. I managed to find only one, and it was some striped button-down shirt. Ironically, it was a tad too small for me. But it didn't matter anyway: I seldom wear button-down shirts so I wouldn't have purchased it even if it did fit. I ended up leaving the store empty-handed. Now, I know I'm supposed to be content with what God's given me--stature included--but sometimes it's really hard. Especially when there are people like Yao Ming, who could definitely spare a foot or so in height. (Incidentally, he's 2'2" taller than I am.) Heck, I'd even be happy with a few more inches, enough to make me average. Maybe for my next shopping excursion I should pay a visit to those Pygmies and see what I can get around there. Wait... do they even wear warm clothes?
