Though it probably brings much chagrin to my parents, I'll say it: I look up to my brother because he takes care of me. Growing up, we always kept a certain distance between us. Whether it was the age difference or puerile sibling rivalries I'll never know. But between bullying sessions, the important moments were there--like when he taught me how to play poker, or ride a bike (albeit unsuccessfully). He doesn't need to save my life (although he has) to show me he cares. It's these little things that say it all; he'd probably never admit it, though. Now that he doesn't ever bother with overtly picking on me, his consideration is even more manifest. He bought a new showerhead when I visited--"... because you're into showers," he said. He opted for a movie instead of taking me clubbing with his friends when he sensed my reservations.

While miles and miles may separate us, I know that I'll always have someone on the same continent to turn to. I may not see him every day, but I know he'll be there if I need him, food and shelter included. I wouldn't trade my brother for anything. Except maybe a nice Steinway but that's beside the point: he'd disown me anyway, if all I did was play piano in front of him.
